some of the text on the home page such as: free shipping for over $50...all the text, how can i change that?

In your back-office, go to "Configuration" -> Translations, select "Front-Office templates' then "default" (or the name of your current template), the search for "Orders over $50". Put whatever you want in the "specific redefinition field" and click "Save".
